Discover the presentation of our work on translation and validation of a psychometric instrument in the XII version of the Congreso Latinoamericano Sobre el Abandono en la Educación Superior.
The XII Latin American Congress on Abandonment in Higher Education, CLABES, which was held for the first time in 2011 at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, was held at the Catholic University of Temuco. Since then, its objective has been to bring together teachers, education managers and students from Latin American countries, concerned about aspects related to academic abandonment in Higher Education, its causes and possible initiatives that can be adopted, in a realistic way, to improve the permanence rates of students. This year, the theme addressed was “Teaching and support for equity and inclusion in Higher Education”, a framework in which 150 papers were presented with experiences in different universities in Latin America.
In this version, our founder, Sebastián Caro Landeros, presented a paper entitled ‘Translation and validation of the College Persistence Questionnaire (v.2): A contribution to the prediction of freshmen dropout’. In this presentation, the process of translation and adaptation into Spanish was presented, as well as the validation of the second version of the College Persistence Questionnaire (Davidson et al., 2009).
The results presented established that its version and adaptation to the Chilean university system was adequate and comprehensible, and its items were considered coherent and relevant to the dropout phenomenon according to a group of eight experts in higher education. Likewise, the findings showed an underlying structure similar to the original version in terms of factorial validity and psychometric adequacy, given that the set of subscales presents satisfactory levels of internal consistency. Finally, a series of logistic regressions found that the use of psychosocial and university integration factors significantly increases the detection of potential tertiary dropouts.
In this way, ADAPTIVA®’s participation in CLABES not only strengthens its leadership in educational accompaniment, but also highlights the importance of addressing college dropout from a comprehensive approach. The experience and knowledge shared in this event contribute not only to the growth of our consulting firm but also to the advancement of effective practices in the region.
